Intern

Type:
Description

Sustainable Finance Lab is looking for a dedicated and motivated intern to support our research, organization activities and communication in the fields of sustainability in the private financial sector, central banking, European fiscal policy, post-growth and international climate finance.

About us
Sustainable Finance Lab is a think tank based at Utrecht School of Economics, located in the Adam Smith Hall. Among other topics, we write about the financial supervision of nature-related risks, directing climate finance to the Global South countries, the need for the ECB to decarbonize its monetary policy, and a sustainable reform of the EU fiscal policy. Our work is often visible publicly, as was the case with the webinar where we promoted our work on international climate finance. We often actively write opinion pieces for international outlets, such as work on green capital regulation and the impact of climate change on monetary policy. Additionally, we conduct many advocacy activities on the level of national, European and international policy makers and officials. We work with partners in diverse coalitions across the globe.

Our work is supported by our members, professors and professionals in the fields of economics, finance, law, humanities.

About the position
During your internship, you will support the team in with our research projects, organize stakeholder meetings, help with our outreach via our website and other channels, and help with administrative activities. On a typical work week, you will start with a team meeting to discuss the current projects, you will then have a couple of days to work on research projects and organize events and outreach. You will have a weekly one-on-one meeting with your supervisor to discuss the development of the work.

After your internship, you can tick these boxes:
• Taken part in intellectually challenging and fulfilling research in the field of sustainable finance
• Enjoyed work flexibility.
• Learned about sustainable finance from a policy making perspective. Our work bridges academia and practice. Interns are often in touch with policy makers and learn how theory is translated into policy contexts.
• Taken part in a small and friendly team. We all work closely together, share tasks and maintain horizontal structure as much as possible.
• Feeling like you are contributing to something bigger. Your work counts! Our interns’ work contributes to a publication (see an example here) and are open to hearing their ideas. Your independence, responsibility, and inherent motivation are very valued here.
• Received compensation at €500 per month for a full-time internship. Work-related transportation costs are also covered.
