RESOURCEFULNESS – TWO JUNIOR RESEARCH POSITION (2024)

Position 1 – Junior researcher: mapping flows of critical materials and finance (REBO faculty, Utrecht University School of Economics U.S.E.)
Responsibilities:
- Devising a research proposal (1st month).
- Conducting a mapping exercise of the flows of critical materials and corporate and macro-level finance (inter-country and inter-organizational) for extraction of critical minerals and related value chains alongside “sustainable mining” initiatives (e.g., climate smart mining of the World Bank).
- Co-organization of a workshop with the Resourcefulness team.Position 2 – Junior researcher: Qualitative study of a value chain (Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, department of Cultural Anthropology)
Responsibilities:
- Making a research proposal (1st month).
- Conducting a literature study of the social, environmental, and political impacts on different scales and locations along a particular value chain of a critical mineral for the energy transition.
- Depending on available funds, contacts, and experience of the junior researcher, this study may also involve empirical research.
- Co-organization of a workshop with the Resourcefulness team.- Profile
Requirements
• You have a Masters degree in a subject relevant either one of the two junior researcher positions addressed by the Resourcefulness group;
• You have the ability to review and analyse literature, from an interdisciplinary perspective;
• An excellent command of spoken and written English;
• A professional attitude and behavior that includes reliability, a pro-active mindset, integrity, precision, good communication skills and collegiality;
• Enthusiasm and intrinsic motivation.
• For position 1: experience with (economic) modelling/mapping of financial or material flows,
